Adrift
“I was reduced to pure concept. My flesh had dissolved; my form had dissipated. I floated in space. Liberated of my corporeal being, but without dispensation to go anywhere else. I was adrift in the void. Somewhere across the fine line separating nightmare from reality.” ― Haruki Murakami, Dance Dance Dance.
Cinematography by Devin Muñoz. Daniel Costa’s Adrift will have its world premiere on Thursday, February 18.

Violet crumble
This film begins at escape. The film is conceived from the point of view of a woman finding a way to cope with the consequences of a traumatic event. From the moment her feet touch the ground, we find ourselves alongside her, entering a place that is safe from damage and pain. We are offered a feeling of sanctuary, yet beneath these still waters are the forces of a riptide of memory, recognition, and unattainable recovery. Cinematography by Péter Dániel Matkaicsek. Eva Stone & Simone Elliott’s Violet crumble makes its world premiere at CHOP SHOP 2021 on Thursday, February 18.

how to become an escape artist
how to become an escape artist is a dreamscape. It exhibits the subconscious of a person in constant flux. It shows us where we run to physically and emotionally, the things that we carry as we continuously escape, and the words that we keep hidden. Cinematography by Elyse Mertz. Lauren Horn (she/her) is a movement and text-based artist from Windsor, CT. She graduated from Amherst College with degrees in Psychology and Theatre and Dance. @Me
@Me is a digital biography of the life of digital native Lauren Horn. Cascading through different lenses, it looks at online expression. From learning dance videos online to making a vlog to crafting the perfect Instagram post, it plays with the sense of isolation that comes with using the internet as your main mode of connecting with others and providing entertainment. Inspired by the Covid-19 pandemic, it explores the ways that many of us have delved deeper into our online lives during the quarantine. Cinematography by Lauren Horn. CHOP SHOP 2021 is proud to share the world premiere of Lauren Horn’s dance film @Me on Thursday, February 4.

WALDO:  2020
Mark Haim writes of his dance film WALDO: 2020,In lockdown, quarantine, and self-imposed isolation during the 2020 pandemic, I found solace and company in plant life. Learning that trees communicate with each other, that they help each other out when things get tough, that they share resources instead of hoarding them, inspired me to envision my body holding a different sort of space in the world, in nature -- far less important or significant than what humanity has taught me to imagine. From there, I came up with the idea of re-creating the child's game called Find Waldo: find me hidden, folded in, blended with life.” Mark Haim’s WALDO:  2020 was filmed in the forests along the I-90 corridor, the lands of the Muckleshoot, Coast Samish, Duwamish, and Tulalip people, and will have its world premiere at CHOP SHOP 2021 on Thursday, February 25.

Los Perros del Barrio Colosal
Through the exaggerated mannerisms of daytime television, the six characters of Los Perros del Barrio Colosal take us on a wild romp through the challenges of creative decision making. Diving dramatically into the adventure of an imagination yet to be physicalized, they ask us to consider the far side of the moments when our ideas threaten, with disjointed urgency, to swallow us whole. Cinematography by Drew L. Brown. CHOP SHOP proudly presents the world premiere of Omar Román De Jesús’ Los Perros del Barrio Colosal on Thursday, February 11.
